Understanding Issues with Account Purchases and 3DS Verification

If your account can’t complete a one-time purchase (like credits or a phone number), follow these steps to troubleshoot and understand the 3D Secure (3DS) payment verification process. 3DS adds an extra security check, which might require action from you or your bank.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Verify Payment Method:
    • Ensure there’s an active payment method on file.
    • Confirm the credit card is set as the primary payment method (not set to “Link” or any fast-pay system).
  2. Confirm Previous Transactions:
    • Check if recurring payments, such as subscription charges, were processed successfully. If these work, the issue might be with 3DS on one-time purchases.
  3. Understand 3D Secure (3DS) Requirement:
    • 3DS Authentication: For one-time purchases, an extra layer of verification is often needed. This requires a password, OTP, or approval directly from the bank.
    • Bank or Card Issuer Action: Your bank may need to approve the transaction before it can complete.
  4. Handle 3DS Prompts:
    • Look for a pop-up or prompt during checkout to verify the purchase. Complete any required action (e.g., entering a code or confirming in your banking app).
  5. Check Documentation and Contact Support:
    • If the issue persists, consult the Stripe documentation or contact support for help with your specific card and bank authentication requirements.
